Scam

I needed help with outlook email. I allowed this tech to access my computer and gave him my email address, name and phone number. The number I called was 800-926-****. I almost hung up immediately because I couldn't understand what he was saying because of the Indian sounding accent, but unfortunately, I didn't. Whe I asked if he really was with Microsoft, he said that they were "certified" techs for Microsoft. Now I'm scared of what could happen to my computer and what he was able to get to before I logged off the chat! Not sure what to do from here! Can't find a number for Microsoft to report them.

Scammed

I received an email that claimed to be from Yahoo, stating that my Yahoo account had been compromised and was going to be closed unless I clicked on a link that was enclosed. I DID NOT. Instead I got the YAHOO customer service number 800 926-**** from the net and I called them. It connected me to a service desk in India. After verification of "Date of birth" and my "location", to make sure I was the owner of the account, He told me that I did the right thing by not clicking on the link. He proceeded to check my account for a couple of minutes and then told me that YES, my account had been severely compromised. He asked for my telephone number and asked me to wait for his call. He said he was going to check the extend of the damage. When he called back, he said that not only my account had been compromised but my computer system as well. He said that this was not uncommon, based on other customers with the same problem. He requested a remote session and I gave him access to my computer. He proceeded to show me lines and lines of data and told me that my computer system needed to be fixed immediately because it was being accessed from Africa, Nigeria and a few other places. He said it was NOT a VIRUS, but people who had access to my system via links that were already installed in my computer. He asked me to contact MANAS at GLOBAL TECH HELP center, who provides MICROSOFT COMPUTER CERTIFIED HELP, to get my computer fixed for USD 300.00 with a guarantee of 2 years. All I had to do was pay via a credit card, give him access to my system and in two hours the computer will be fixed. ...... INSTEAD, I took my computer to A MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TECH where I live. I paid 100.00 for a system's check. THEY FOUND NO VIRUS AND NO INSTALLATIONS FROM THIRD PARTIES. The computer is working properly and I received a guarantee for the next 6 months. It seems that what the YAHOO rep. said was all false. NOW, How can this happen?. I tried calling back this time I used another number 800-941-**** and I got the same feedback from someone in India. I tried getting a customer service number in the US to report the problem but there is none.WE, all our technology and our bank account information is at the hands of unscrupulous thieves who will stop at nothing. To make things worse, we do not even have access to a customer service rep in the United States. This seems incredible. I never thought this day could come.

Wow this poster is so retarded. Look, yahoo sucks.

But those Indian people have nothing to do with yahoo.

They are a complete scam. It's your fault for falling for it.

#1186603

Just happened to me too! I called the 800-478-**** number, and pretty much they asked the same questions (name, DOB, email account).

Said it was compromised and they need to install a software to remove the compromise, for $100. I told them to EFF OFF and hung up. Not because I thought they were a scam, but I was so pissed off with Yahoo. But after hanging up, I began to realize it was all a scam.

And agreed, it is unbelievable that Yahoo doesn't have a customer number to reach. I cant get into my account and Im in the middle of a job negotiation!

#1175594

Man, I am having the same problem. I need the password to an old email account and Itehy told me it was severly hacked and i need to pay 99.99 dollars to get it fixed.

#1116453

Just rang the "UK" Customer service "Helpline" ? After being a fool & losing (& forgetting) my Yahoo password.

I have got a new system & needed to access yahoo/flickr.

I do however know my security questions & was willing to confirm my account with them.

Anyhow an Indian/Asian guy answers & says that there "is a virus on my email" so he needs to "Check my system" & requires access to my computer(s).

Tells me to log on to TEAMVIEWER!!!!!!!??????????

Err why???

I am using a NEW computer system, fully protected,& virus, spyware, malware free. I have just completed a scan & all is fine & CLEAR! I have never had a problem with my email system either. Log on to a TEAMVIEWER!!!???

so that a "Yahoo" representative in a foreign country can "Check" my system?? Sounds VERY dodgy to me! Errr NO! Anyway, I refused...

The only person who has access to my system is ME! Certainly sounds scamish to me.

#672114

Please please be aware that this is a scam and do your research prior to allowing them any kind of access...I am in process now of disputing this charge.

Yahoo email program disabled, then fixed

My fairly old desktop computer with Windows XP and Yahoo email was suddenly disabled several days ago. Simaltaneously a message appeared to call iyogi Tech Support to correct my computer problems (1-80*-237-****). I called and after the better part o an hour I submitted to a $99.99 email and correction and "computer optimzation". The rep was very nice and he turned me over to a very nice tech. The tech claimed to have cleaned up my computer and to have restored my Yahoo Email Program. The tech also tried to promote my purchasing the McAfee anti virus program even though my current Eset program had 2 more yrs. paid up. The rep said the work they performed would have cost $299.00 by the Geek Squad. I didn't conirm same? The discomfort I have is that the iyogi repair banner appeared just as my Yahoo email program was messed up. Did they *** my account and cause the problem that they then charged me to fix? It's virtually impossible to talk to a "real person" at Yahoo Email to seek help from them. I'm considering disputing the credit card charges with Capital One although I'm not at all sure that they, iyogi, aren't experienced in fighting and winning credit card disputes. the other pro-active measure I have taken has been to change my email password. They may be ligit but my introduction the iyogi was very suspect. If it happened to me again, I would more patiently have waited and called my personal computer repairman who would probably have solved my problem cheaper and better. I submitted to time and pressure of a very nice iyogi salesperson. And, there's a chance that iyogi did repair my computer and that the timing o my email program's problem and the iyogi ad to repair the program were coincidental. But, I doubt it.

This not iYogi's fault. This is made possible by the Yahoo and Google's of the world who offer digital ad platforms.

There is a new concept in the digital marketing world called remarketing. So based on your internet activity, google/yahoo continue to put forth ads to you even if you are not specifically searching for something. From the ad platforms perspective, they are only getting better and better at displaying the ad at the time when you need something. If you want to escape/avoid this, disable cookie download on your browser and delete all the old cookies.

You may want to also read up on Doubleclick which is Googles cookie and what all it monitors.

This is the most widely distributed cookie in the world. Needless to say some websites will stop working for you, but removing cookies is the only foolproof way.

Yahoo Premium Email - can't cancel

I've cancelled my yahoo email account months ago. But Yahoo still charges me for premium email service. I call to get a refund and they can't refund because I no longer have an account. So I don't have the service, but they can't remove the charge because I am no longer a customer. This is rediculous. Help dsk a yahoo was rude. I may have to close an entire bank account because there is no way out of the endless loop of charges that can't be canceled because I am not a customer. Really Yahoo.

The help page is utterly useless, a reply is promised in 24-48 hours but no reply ever comes. Their online and call centre help directs you to the 'account verification team' and claim this team has the tools to deal with your specific problem, but clicking on the link only leads back to the help page, and by then that employee is gone, and you go through same thing again with another minimum wage slave. There is no way out of this loop.

Yahoo's customer service is pathetic

Yahoo simply does not have any customer service. The only place to find a phone number for Yahoo's customer service is through completely separate websites that list helpline phone numbers for all corporations. If you are looking for a contact section on their help site, you must navigate through mostly useless help fields until you find where you can send them an email. However, if your problem is very specific in nature (and obviously the generic help fields are of no use), you are still completely out of luck. The email responses you will get back from the so-called 'help' techs are canned links that have absolutely nothing to do with the nature of your original complaint. Even when you ask them in detail to address the specific issue you have, they will still generate useless links. In my experience, the first email was received 3 days after I sent it, the second was almost 2 weeks, and the third never received a response. The sheer fact that Yahoo has disabled the use of their POP servers for use on other email programs (IE macmail, Thunderbird, etc.) is incredibly inconvenient and probably the worst business decision a tech industry could ever make. They did it so that you have to go directly into the Yahoo site and sit through ads and other junk you don't want to see when you're composing messages. Why do that when I can just as easily open another account with a competitor that will allow me to access my email on my selected email programs? I recommend cutting off your Yahoo mail and saying goodbye to Yahoo forever.

My email account was locked. Att/Yahoo cannot unlock the account for me despite checking all of my personal information.

The system/process is set up to unlock only after a set amount of time. (My error message states 12 hours.) The customer service reps are not empowered to do anything for the consumer except tell them to wait!

Unwanted Ads

Home page of Yahoo opens with main articles not opening without an unwanted ad opening beforehand. If I want to see the ad, I will click on the ad myself. What a bunch of ***. Yahoo be smart and do the company and all surfers a favor by respecting their time on the web. Many wrong moves lately. So disappointing. Other sites are or have done the same type of tactic previously and have discontinued that practice because they realized that surfers are not *** and will avoid their sites if they are continually annoyed by ads and things they do not want. With so many news outlets and sites to choose from, does Yahoo really think this is smart business? The Yahoo site already has too many unwanted ads as it stands.

My sentiments exactly.Yahoo customer care is totally unresponsive to consumer complaints--they obviously think they can survive by selling ads and ignoring the subscribers that make it possible to attract ads.

Yahoo ads are tantamount to spam they are so annoying and relentless and irrelevant.

Trouble resetting password for yahoo internet

My computer was stolen on Sunday, Dec. 18. I live and work in Nigeria, West Africa. I started my Yahoo account in the early 2000's, but discontinued my at&t DSL account in 2007 or 2008 but retained my Yahoo internet account: robnadeelilllo@***.net. I had trouble resetting my password after the robbery and so called support. The support girl gave difficult instructions and finally gave me a temporary password. I finally understood that the problem with the at&t password site was that I had internet with Yahoo through AT&T but no internet DSL or other account, thus it did not work. After a week of chaos I am finally trying to get back into my Yahoo email (thank God I have gmail--it was so easy to reset my password with THEM!), but the temp password no longer works. There is relatively little sensitive information in the Yahoo mail as it was a secondary accouint, but I will give you the old password and the temp password if you can help me. Otherwise I will say "goodby" to Yahoo permanently and just stick with gmail. I would like to keep Yahoo, though, because there is a group with Yahoo Groups that I like to access. Thanks, R. Lillo, UNIJOS, Nigeria

Abusive People Skills

My rating - I had to give it one star on Yahoo Local to have it show up. They don't warrant an 'Awful' star!! Where to begin! Don't go near this bank! Several years ago I ran the Christmas Kettle program for The Salvation Army. We were required to count the coins by hand and then roll them before the bank would take them. Writing The Salvation Army information on each wrapper! When I deposited the money in The Salvation Army account Wells Fargo CHARGED The Salvation Army $70.00 to deposit The Salvation Army's money into their own account!!!! This latest Fiasco occurred this week. I took my father in law to Wells Fargo because he is in a wheel chair and can not drive. It is procedure for Wells Fargo to ask customers why are they withdrawing their own money and what they are going to do with it! I spoke up and gave my opinion because my father in law doesn't answer those questions to even his wife or children! I continued to share my opinions that what he did with his money was none of their business. I was informed that it was 'their' Fiduciary Responsibility. (I bet if a customer is robbed in the parking lot it won't be their 'Fiduciary Responsibilty' to cover the loss!) I was told by Assistant Manager Gabriel Davis not to enter the downtown Redding, CA. branch again. Then yesterday Adult Protective Services shows up at the door to check on my in laws because they think I'm strong arming my in-laws. I guess because I was dressed in shorts and sandals I looked criminal. After Protective Service was informed by my father in law they would be moving into a Care Home with in a week she was satisfied there was nothing wrong. I gave up my income and lost out on $20,000 worth of construction supplies among other things to come to California and take care of my in-laws (with out pay) and this is how they treated me. Mr. Davis and co-Hort Sue need to begin their training from the beginning. In my opinion Wells Fargo needs to dry up and close down.

Does att/yahoo count? Worked great for a while but now my address book only exists in cyber-land.

It's there until I try to use it but I can't even send email to myself. Att says they are working on the problem. This isn't a problem it's a total snafu.

Maybe att needs to hire someone in the old USA. At least you could explain your problem and understand their response.

#479593

Yahoo's gtting worse. :upset

I have two accounts. They forced me into upgrade on one account and now will not let me sign in on the other with out upgrade.

So my itunes is held hostage because I can't get int my email.

So pissed off I want to close my emails. GO GMAIL

#375112

I do not want the new upgraded yahoo mail. It does not work well with my mac book pro with lion. Keep getting the beach ball when I try to access my upgraded yahoo mail.I want the old yahoo mail back!

#366207

my very thoughts, at least they should give a no thanks option like any normal human being would.

#361693

Anorhi - no idea who you are or why you exist. They are forcing us to upgrade. Yes, it's true: you can no longer read your emails unless you either upgrade or resort to tricks.

Yes, we are getting this service for free and should be thankful for it.

On the other hand, it does come with a bit of sacrifice, such as losing your privacy when your emails are being scanned.

No, let's not get into the privacy discussion at this point.

For the sake of the argument, let's just agree that even a free service should allow you clean, easy access to it.

Using tricks and spending 10-15 minutes with researching these tricks online is not a clean and easy way for me or anyone to get to a free service.

Please don't bother to retort defending yahoo for this upgrade.

For the sake of the argument again, even a free service upgrade should come with the option of keeping the old version.

#346976

They don't force you to take it, you can switch it back all by yourself as described by the person who posted before I did.

Pick a search engine, use it before complaining.

Also, You didn't have to have the upgrade in teh first place. A little thing pops up asking if you wanna get the new version.all you ahd to do was say no.
